Coarsely ground the spices in a mortar and pestle.

STEP 2

Add the spices to 2.5 cups of water in a pan and bring to boil.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon crushed fennel seeds
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 1 -2 cardamom pods
  • 1 tsp crushed ginger (optional)

Instructions

  • Lighly crush fennel seeds, cardamom pods and ginger in a pestle and mortar and set aside.
  • Heat 2.5 cups of water in a pot.
  • Add the crushed spices in the water and bring to simmer for 3 minutes or so.
  • Remove from heat and leave the spices to infuse for a minute or so.
  • Add any healthy sweetener if needed and stir well until dissolved.
  • Sieve the tea and drink warm

Notes

  • It is normal to notice spice sediments at the bottom of the cup, you can leave some on the tea when nearly finished to avoid getting the sediments in your mouth.
  • Use honey or crystal rock sugar as an alternative to jaggery powder or skip adding any type of sweetener in the tea.
  • Add the spice and your chosen additional ingredient after the water becomes slightly warm.
